Treats are an excellent incentive for many dogs and cats, and they can help you distract your animal long enough to snap a few note-worthy photos. Whether attempting to take a photo at home or going to an off-site location, be sure to bring treats.
Add Some Toys
Toys, like treats, give your pet something to focus on while you’re getting ready for your photo shoot. If you think your pet will get too excited to sit still for a picture opportunity, you might want to bring a few toys to hold his attention. You might even want to incorporate the toy into the photo.

Scheduling a short photo session can keep you from achieving a quality family photo with your pet. Animals only sometimes cooperate when we want them to, and adding the stress of a short turnaround time can make the experience unpleasant for everyone. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to prepare your pets for their closeup.

Our pets can sense when we are acting differently, which can put them on edge. Try to act as normal as possible during your photoshoot. This will help keep the animal calm, and give you some opportunities to get some great candid shots. Interact with your animals as regularly as possible throughout the photo shoot for the best results.
Go With the Flow
Try to go into the experience without rigid expectations to capture an honest, organic photo. For example, if you are determined to make a traditional portrait work, you might be disappointed by the experience. Let your pets be themselves, and you will get the best shot.
Avoid Discomfort
If an animal is uncomfortable during your picture time, it could affect the session. Avoid places, accessories, and situations that will make the animal uncomfortable. This can include clothing and accessories. If your pet is comfortable wearing a cute sweater or a headpiece, definitely include them in your photo. If your dog or cat will be pawing at the accessories the whole time, don’t try too hard to include these extras.
